Twyford Conservation Area
The South Downs National Park are proposing an extension of the Twyford Conservation Area.
Published: 23 October 2026
The SDNPA are consulting on a Conservation Area Character Appraisal and Management Plan (CAAMP) for Twyford.
Twyford was first designated as a conservation area by Winchester City Council in 1980. This new proposed CAAMP is aligned with the recently adopted; February 2022, Twyford Neighbour Plan (TNP), which is an in depth detailed local level study of the area. The CAAMP provides a layer to this Plan, focussing on the conservation area and aims to avoid the duplication of information already covered in the comprehensive TNP.
The existing boundaries to the Twyford Conservation Area were assessed during the current survey work for this appraisal. It was considered that the existing boundary generally reflects the area of special character, but that there are a number of adjacent areas that might be considered for inclusion in the conservation area, including Area 1: open areas of landscape as in the water meadows to the west, Area 2: houses around the Roman Road in the east and Area 3: land to the east of Twyford School. These areas are detailed on the attached map and CAAMP for your comments.
The draft Twyford Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan can be found on the South Downs National Park Website and also on this page, below this article.
The consultation runs from 12th October 2026 to 23rd November 2026. Please send your comments to consultations@southdowns.gov.uk All comments will be considered carefully.
The final version of the document will be taken before the SDNPA Planning Committee for adoption on the 10th December 2026; it will be subsequently published on the SDNPA website.
